Christmas 2008

Well Christmas 2008 has come and gone but the remainders of the event are still left behind. Memories of a good celebration and hopes of more to be.

Our three daughthers; Cheron, Rachel, and Sarah, along with 8 of the 9 grandchildren were here. Joseph is in Washington with a foot of snow and a mother in law. He loves her but I had to have the joke about mother in laws here somewhere. After all their were a few folks here that were at their mother in law's too. Hmmm - imagine that he went to her mothers. :) It was a house full.

We had a big ham for dinner; 22 pounds of porky deliciousness. It's all gone now.

Geveryl Robinson in her Sunday, December 21, 2008 Savannah Morning News opinion column wrote that Christmas should not be a holiday. "The point I was making to my friend is if we really understood the true meaning of Christmas, if we really took that day to reflect on the life and the acts of Christ, then we'd all realize that Christmas should not be a holiday; it should be a way of life."

Lenka and the Wisdom of a Child

Recently a friend gave me Lenka's new CD for Christmas. I admit I do like the album and three songs get played over and over again. As I was returning from shopping the other day my grand-daughter Sydney (5 years old) was riding with me. She also likes this album. And surprise surprise she likes the same three tracks: Track 1 The Show, Track 8 Trouble is Your Friend and Track 11 We Will Not Grow Old.

After 2 hours of hearing the CD Sydney started only playing those three tracks. As Track 11 - We Will Not Grow Old played for the umpteenth time Sydney makes the following statement.

"I have a long way to go before I am old. If your a teenager your getting old fast. You and Nana are already old."

You and me will be lying side by side
Forever, forever
Underneath the adolescent sky
Together, together
And you will hold my heart inside your hand
And you will be the one, the one to tell me

Oh, we've got a long way to go
To get there
We'll get there
But oh, if there's one thing that we know
It's that we will never get old...

You made me swear that our hearts will never die
No never, no never
'Cause no one seems to believe that we can fly
Forget them, forget them
Oh...you told me

Oh, how could we know that day, it came with age.
That oh, the feeling would fade...

Amish Friendship Bread

Amish Friendship Bread - At first I thought she was trying to get me to be part of a bread chain letter. But I did take home a bag of goo.

As I mixed the goo and let out the air I read over the recipe. Not very Amish with instant pudding and a zip lock bag.

Okay day 10 arrived last night. Two nice loaves.
(Not my picture.)

So what was the verdict? This was a a whole lot of work (flour, milk, and sugar too) for something that tastes like Pound cake, or Smash cake, or coffee cake. It's not bread bread - its a sweet cake bread.

PS - This is a recipe that has been around for a very long time. It is not Amish. It is close to a German bread; Hermann-Teig. It is a variation of an old sour dough recipe.

Anyone want some starter bags?
(Should have baked it in a bunt cake pan.)

Software Purchase

"Oh by the way I purchased a software program for my computer while I was at the store."

"What did you get?"

"It's called Colonization. It is made by the same people who make my Civilization game."

"It's called what?"

"Colonization - like my Civilization game....."

"Wait wait - you said software program."

"Right."

"Its a game! Are you trying to confuse me and cover up buying another computer game?"

"No. No - it is software. Games are software."

"Right. It's a GAME!"

In the Beginning there was Light

I walked outside and there before me was the reason I believe in God.
I love this world and all of the creations that God has made for it.
And it all began with Light.

This is a picture of the sunset from my front yard November 25th.

As I jump into the world of bloggers I promise to do my best.
